Learn English and French for Kids

Learning school supplies for kids in English and French is fun language learning with Elliot and myABCdad Learning for kids.

My beautiful boy, Elliot, age 6, embarks on his first day of Grade 1(CP – Cours préparatoire) in France. Before he begins this big year of discovery and wonder, he shares the tools of his trade, or the school supplies for kids from his backpack in English and French. Extend French and English for kids by combining our video tutorial with four fantastic, visual activities.

All activities contain pictures of a variety of Elliot’s school supplies and have been edited to help make important picture and word connections in our Activity Worksheets and Puzzles.

School Supply MEMORY

This resource is a two page PDF document. One page includes ten 6 cm by 6 cm English cards, each card with a picture and school supply name highlighted in blue. The second page repeats the same cards, but with French school supply names highlighted in red.

School Supplies 3 Piece Word-Picture PUZZLES

This resource is a two page PDF document that includes ten picture and word puzzles of the school supplies from Elliot’s backpack. One version is in English and one is in French.Follow the dashed perimeter to cut out each puzzle and continue to cut each into three pieces, again following dashed lines.Mix up all puzzle pieces and invite children to piece them back together using pictures to support word recognition and knowledge.

School Supplies Word UNSCRAMBLE

This resource is a two page PDF document that presents ten names of different school supplies from Elliot’s backpack down the middle of the page where letters of each name are mixed up, or scrambled – one version in French and another in English. A word box appears above with spaces corresponding with the number of letters in each name. Unscramble each school supply name with help from pictures and word names. After unscrambling each school supply word, draw a line matching it with a picture.

School Supplies Word-Picture MATCH

This one page resource presents school supply pictures down the middle of the page. On the left side word names appear in French and in English along the right side. Complete the activity by drawing a line from each French and English word to a matching school supply picture. This activity can also be easily completed on an Activboard using overlay features.
