How To Make Letter R 3D

Papier-Mache For Kids

Learn how to make letter R 3D and enjoy fun paper-mache for kids with Elliot and myABCdad Learning for Kids.

Ever since starting our project together, Elliot and I have been tossing around the idea of creating a Word Wall in his bedroom. We have been visiting letters of the alphabet, printing upper and lower case versions, learning the sounds, names and actions to help remind him. Elliot has been pointing to letters he knows in his environment with increasing regularity. I have mentioned a Word Wall and he has commented that they have one started in his classroom. We needed to act fast, but how?

A Word Wall in Kindergarten classrooms is pretty standard. It is great to help children locate words by the letter they start with. Words can be added by the teacher and eventually the kids as the year progresses. The Kindergarten classes I taught always heard me bang on about the benefits of creating their own at home.

Fast forward a few years and the time was ripe to start one of our very own. After making piggy-banks from 3D shapes and papier-mache, Elliot and I thought about pinching the idea and applying it to letters. Instead of shapes we taped rolled up paper to cardboard R r cutouts. We applied papier-mache and painted them. Now that we have finished our 3D versions, Elliot is keen to have a go and repeat it for all letters in the alphabet. What’s more, he is already adding words to his new Word Wall. What a terrific, colourful way to celebrate letters and words.
