Paper Shape Patterns For Kids

Cool Math For Kids

At the 3:18 mark of our video tutorial, the fast-forwarding of Elliot and his dad recreating and repeating wooden shape designs is slowed to normal speed. Elliot starts singing as he works. Now, I am aware that Elliot is my son. And of course when it is your own, it is hard not to trumpet about the great things they do. But when a learning moment spawns a spontaneous melody it truly signals learning bliss.

A bit about us…

My name is Craig and I am Elliot’s dad. I am also the author of this blog. To dig deeper and find out more about who we are and what we are doing, visit our Who we are page. It is also worth noting that Elliot is 6 years old at the time of capturing this learning experience.

Magical Learning Moments

As a Kindergarten teacher for over ten years, little musical kernels of happy bliss popped up from time to time. Children never need to tell you they enjoy what they are doing – they simply sing their delight. I always thought to capture and share these magical moments with parents and the wider class community via video. But by the time I had the camera up and running, the memory stick in, the battery charged and ready and remembering where I had left the camera in the first place, the moment passed. Perhaps the latest hand held device and social media sensation would have done the trick.

Nevertheless, at the end of the day, I would persevere and attempt to convey the magic. My musical recounts, however, often motivated parents to swiftly excuse themselves and run.

Now, with Elliot’s help, I have managed to capture the magic.
