How To Learn Missing Numbers 1-30 For Kids

Cool Math For Kids

Learning numbers 1-30 for kids is made easy with missing numbers, fun math activities for kids, Elliot and myABCdad Learning for Kids.

The 100s Chart is a very powerful tool in helping children visualize the sequence of numbers from 1 to 100. Elliot, age 6, and I have been using our DIY version for several months now. Watch how to make your own 100s Chart, download your own DIY version and help make learning numbers super cool math for kids.

In this video session, Elliot and I extend our most recent work with the 100s chart and use our missing numbers worksheet to reinforce, extend and provide evidence of our work success.

Set Up Success

Helping set up success, Elliot and I first review what he knows about the ten missing numbers presented as number squares at the bottom of the sheet. Elliot points to and reads number 10, 2 and 9. I then read the remaining numbers. Elliot chooses to replace missing numbers in the 100s chart by printing and crossing out number squares to keep track.

Next, I invite Elliot to choose what he feels comfortable starting with, suggesting it might be an idea to work from what he knows to what he does not. Throughout, I ask questions about Elliot’s choices. Occasionally asking, How do you know? helps him check and reflect. Reflection is sometimes overlooked and inviting him to verbalize his strategies is really helpful in reinforcing this practise.

When Elliot does explain his thinking, I am pleasantly surprised to learn that he uses number patterns to help decide where missing numbers should go. I also share my strategy, counting on which gives Elliot an alternative strategy to fall back on to check accuracy.

With each future visit to the 100s chart, Elliot and I will follow up with new a missing numbers worksheet. Each download will become available with each new post.

Please share this video and resources, so others may benefit from learning for kids in a family fun way.

Dad

Elliot is in Kindergarten in France. He is also learning at home with his dad. At myABCdad Learning for Kids, we offer teaching resources and video tutorials to support learning at home for parents and kids.

With 15 years of primary classroom teaching experience in seven different countries across our gorgeous globe, I create practical, visual worksheet resources. My son Elliot joins me to have a go and try each. We capture the action on video to help frame ways to help learning and build understanding working alongside children.

I love tailoring resources to meet the needs of my growing son. We also love sharing with you. Please let us know if you have questions, requests or ideas by sending us an e-mail at – myabcdad@gmail.com
