Elliot built a fantastic Lego DUPLO boat just the other day. He was so proud of it, that we decided to share his design in a post.
During his video demonstration, Elliot finds his voice and is outstanding at communicating the building process. He is amazing and the math connections flow naturally. This experience reminds me why spending time learning together and playing together is so incredibly rewarding.
Not only is the time together fun, but it helps you understand where they are, their strengths and some of the things they still do not know.
This understanding has come in handy recently as Elliot received his first Kindergarten report card from his new school here in France. It was extensive. He was also extremely pleased and shared every last bit of detail. Not only was I thrilled with his interest, but because of our time spent learning and playing together, there were no surprises. I know Elliot and his learning strengths, because I have taken time to discover them.
Learn Together
Another amazing reward from our play together, is my own personal well-being. In an age where computer gadgets can sustain attention with little parental interaction, sometimes it is the attention from us that is what they need most and indeed, what we need. The payoff is tremendous. I always feel richer when Elliot and I learn together. It makes me happy and energized and I am certain Elliot feels the same way.
